detection - Detect the start tone event for a race from a .wav file in MATLAB -

i trying measure duration (in samples) between start tone (3800hz) , finish tone (high amplitude frequency unknown). 2 tones randomly distributed in .wav file (est. 10 seconds). important identify sample number of last sample of first tone , first sample of last tone? how can this?

the .wav file contains fundamental frequency , noise (as start tone , finish tone). have prerecording of start tone fundamental frequency , noise in background, can use correlation function detect it?

some of noise exceeds 3800hz (instantaneously) methods using threshold values detecting tones don't work well. however, can use fact tone event longer in duration noise event (because made deliberately pressing , releasing button) detect tone.
